The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of all 23 local government chairmanship positions and the 276 councillorship seats in the Benue State local government elections, held on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
The Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Barrister Terlumun Tombowua, made the announcement at the Commission's headquarters in Makurdi. Tombowua described the electoral process as peaceful, transparent, and the most credible in the state’s history.
According to the Chairman, certificates of return will be issued to the elected local government chairmen today.
In a show of goodwill, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Benue, Comrade Otene Idoko, praised BSIEC for organizing what he termed credible polls. He congratulated the APC on its sweeping victory and highlighted the Commission’s track record of conducting fair elections since the return of democracy.
The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in Benue, Dr. Benjamin Omale, also expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. He credited the victory to the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, who he said provided the necessary support for the party’s success in the local government elections.
