Chidimma Adetshina, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, has announced her decision to take a break from pageants following her historic achievement at the 2024 Miss Universe competition. The 23-year-old beauty queen emerged as the first runner-up in the global contest held on November 16 in Mexico City, a feat never before accomplished by any Nigerian or West African contestant.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Adetshina expressed pride in her groundbreaking performance and shared plans to focus on education, modeling, and acting. She revealed, “I want to put pageants aside for now and concentrate on my studies. I also want to explore other opportunities to establish myself.”
Adetshina, who was also crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, faced earlier controversies regarding her South African citizenship but overcame the challenges to shine on the international stage. As she transitions from pageantry, she will collaborate on global development initiatives with the Miss Universe Organization.
