Lagos State Police Command, says it has arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Wahaab Ibrahim, for reportedly defiling a four-year-old girl.
The unfortunate development was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who noted that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to the Spokesperson, the incident occurred on September 3 in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
Hundeyin noted that a complaint reported the case at the Elemoro Division and was transferred to the Gender Unit in Ikeja
“The complaint reported that, while she was away, her four-year-old niece was sexually assaulted by the suspect.
“The police visited the scene and recovered and registered some exhibits,” he said.
In a similar horrific incident, The Delta State Police Command took a 50-year-old man into custod for allegedly abusing a 4-year-old girl sexually in Ubulu-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
It was learnt that the abuse occured on Thursday, 26 September when the victim went to her grandmother’s house as her mother had told her to do so.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu said, “On Friday, we swiftly responded to a complaint of defilement of a 4-year-old child by over 50-year-old man.”
Gwamnishu explained their actions: “We first took the child to a Government Hospital where she was examined and the Doctor/Nurses confirmed that the child has been altered (Penetrated).”
He added, “We left the hospital and arrested the man and allowed the girl to show us who touched her and she pointed the man.”
The suspect is now at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ogwashi Uku. Gwamnishu said, “He will be transferred to the state police headquarters immediately after the division is done with their preliminary investigation.”
Also the girl’s mother who shared her story said: “So, I went to church because we have fasting and prayer. I said when you come back from school, you will not meet me, you should go to my grandmother’s house.”
She continued, “After our fasting and prayer, I came back and decided to check whether she had come back from school. She called me and I said what? Because I wanted to take my evening bath before bathing her, she said her buttock was paining me.”
The mother then discovered something was wrong: “I demanded to see it and when I opened it, I saw sperm. I enquired to know who did it? She described the brother that had injury on his leg.”
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright confirmed the incident.
