The Rivers State Government has announced that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will kick off a series of project inaugurations starting from Monday, March 3, 2025. These initiatives are part of a 10-day event aimed at unveiling several revamped and newly constructed public facilities across various sectors, including security, emergency services, healthcare, education, and judiciary welfare.
In a statement released on Saturday, March 1, 2025, by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, it was disclosed that the inauguration series will begin with the commissioning of the newly constructed Government House Staff Quarters in Port Harcourt Local Government Area (PHALGA). The ceremony is expected to mark the beginning of a transformative phase for the state, with projects designed to enhance critical services and overall public welfare.
On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Governor Fubara will officially launch the newly revamped First Services Stations. This follows his previous commitment to strengthen the state's capacity for emergency response and fuel distribution. The First Services Stations are state-owned and play a critical role in ensuring the availability of essential services throughout Rivers State.
Later that day, the Governor will inaugurate the new Rivers State Fire Service Headquarters, alongside newly acquired firefighting vehicles. This modern facility, located at Isaac Boro Park/Mile 1 in Port Harcourt City, is expected to bolster the state’s emergency response infrastructure and provide faster, more effective fire and rescue operations.
Wednesday, March 5, 2025, will witness the handing over of a helicopter to the Nigerian Air Force in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. This move aims to improve aerial surveillance and emergency response capabilities, enhancing security across the state.
The week's activities will continue with the inauguration of additional firefighting facilities. On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Borokiri Fire Service Station and its associated firefighting vehicles will be unveiled in Old Port Harcourt Township. A similar facility in Rumuodonmaya, Obio/Akpor LGA, will be inaugurated on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Governor Fubara’s focus will then shift to community development and cultural heritage on Monday, March 10, 2025. He will open the newly constructed and furnished palace and residence of the Akpor Monarch in Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor LGA, a project aimed at preserving traditional values and leadership in the region.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Governor will inaugurate the Judges' Quarters located on Akassa Street, PHALGA, as part of efforts to enhance the living conditions of the state’s judiciary.
Healthcare infrastructure will be a focal point on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, with the inauguration of the General Hospital in Bori Town, Khana LGA. This project will improve access to essential medical services for residents of the area, contributing to the state’s goal of delivering high-quality healthcare for all.
On Thursday, March 13, 2025, the upgraded Okrika Grammar School in Okrika LGA will be unveiled. The newly reconstructed school promises to provide a better learning environment and expanded facilities for students in the region.
The inauguration series will culminate with the opening of the Nigerian Law School campus in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. This well-furnished and fully equipped campus marks a significant milestone in the provision of legal education in the Niger Delta region.
According to the statement, these events will feature the participation of key government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders across various sectors, underscoring the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
