In a stunning move, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has allegedly directed all 23 local government chairmen to contest the upcoming local government elections under the banner of the All People's Party (APP). This bold decision comes on the heels of Governor Fubara losing control of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State to former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The local government elections, slated for October 5, 2024, have just become a lot more interesting. Wike's tight grip on the PDP structure in the state has caused significant friction between the two leaders, culminating in Governor Fubara's decision to back the APP.
